Michelle H. Bass focuses her practice on consumer bankruptcy restructuring and reorganization. She has carved out a niche in representing spouses and ex-spouses going through bankruptcy before, during, and after divorce. She represents both debtors and creditors in divorce-related bankruptcy proceedings. She primarily represents debtors in Chapter 13 reorganization, which span from high net-worth and high income-earning individuals, to individuals seeking to prevent foreclosure or repossession of secured collateral. She has also represented individuals reorganizing under Chapter 11, as well as individuals and businesses going through Chapter 7 liquidation. She has been extremely successful in her over nine years of practice stopping foreclosures, stripping secured liens and cramming down loans on collateral for individuals seeking to reorganize under Chapters 13 and 11. She has successfully defended appeals in the Federal Eastern District for the State of Michigan, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Michelle received a B.A. degree from the University of Michigan with an honors concentration in contemporary American history. She earned a J.D. degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2007. She is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Federal Bar for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. She is a dynamic advocate for the benefits of Chapter 13 reorganization, having served as an ICLE faculty speaker on the intersection of bankruptcy and family law. Michelle’s excellent advocacy on behalf of her clients has earned her recognition as a Michigan Super Lawyers Rising Star for 2014, 2015, and 2016.
